Sustainability at DAMAC Digital
As data centers continue to grow as the backbone of the digital economy, their environmental impact must be proactively managed. Data centers currently account for approximately 2% of global electricity usage and 1% of energy-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions—a figure projected to increase due to rising AI and HPC workloads. In the EMEA region alone, data centers consumed over 98 TWh of electricity in 2023, with expectations to reach 121 TWh by 2030.
At DAMAC Digital, we are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint and leading the industry in sustainable, high-efficiency digital infrastructure.
A PLEDGE TO SUSTAINABILITY
Our sustainability strategy goes beyond carbon offsetting. We are dedicated to achieving operational excellence and adherence to internationally recognized metrics:
These ISO/IEC 30134- / EN 50600 defined metrics form the foundation of our design and operations, allowing transparent performance tracking and continuous optimization.
To achieve this, we have adopted several Innovative Cooling and Energy Systems:

EFFICIENT TECHNOLOGIES ADOPTED
Air-Cooled Chillers with Low-GWP Refrigerants: Use of next-generation HFO refrigerants in both chillers and DX-based cooling units.
HVO-Based Generators: Partnering with OEMs to implement Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) in generators, resulting in up to 90% lower emissions compared to fossil diesel.
ADVANCED COOLING ARCHITECTURES

RENEWABLE ENERGY INITIATIVES
While hydro and wind energy remain regionally limited, DAMAC Digital explores battery storage and grid-level renewable integration to support clean power transitions.
We anticipate the broader deployment of AI-driven building management systems to enhance cooling efficiency, detect anomalies, and optimize load distribution, further improving PUE and CUE metrics.
